FOOD SCRAPS DISPOSAL

Suburban is committed to providing customers with the most comprehensive waste management services, including the disposal of compostable organic items for schools, universities, business cafeterias, and breweries. Our experts will review your facilities, advise and educate staff, and help you navigate the legal requirements for organic waste mandated by New York State.

Why Compost?

Composting food scraps completes a natural cycle that returns essential nutrients and organic matter back to the soil. By separating your discarded food waste, you reduce trash output, keep your premises clean and odor-free, and help preserve our precious land, air, and water resources.

What Counts As Compostable Waste?

All of these can go in the food scraps bin:

  • Leftover and discarded fruits, veggies, grains, meat, dairy, fats, eggshells, nuts, shells, and bones
  • Food-soiled paper, including coffee filters, tea bags, parchment paper, uncoated paper plates and food containers
  • Certified compostable items such as bags, dishware, and utensils.

The following do NOT qualify:

  • Glass, metal, and plastics
  • Food stickers, rubber bands, and twist-ties
  • Plastic- and wax-coated paper products
  • Yard waste and tree debris
  • Litter
